I dodged a bad gas leak!!!

So last night after a decent ride. I was looking over my bike. Well for some reason the fuel line (which I just put on last year and I think I got this line from J&P) caught my eye. I noticed near the petcock there was a dry rot spot and this made no sense being that it was that new and garage kept. I also noticed a slight bit of moisture on it. This also made no sense. So I decided to just pull the line. Easy enough.

Well I took the line out and wow. The middle of it was swollen where gas was leaking past the inner core of the line. The outer part was litteraly flaking off and was damp from gas. Basically the entire line would fall appart and I would have had a bad gas leak within a tank full. Talk about dodging a major problem or even disaster!!!! Going to pick up some new line at the stealer. Cheap fix.

make sure you use gas hose and not water or vacume hose , will not hold up and will swell just like you are talking about , not the rot though , why noy just hit a auto parts store and save some $ , besides we al know how many new bikes have been sold over going in to get a gas hose or a bolt or such lol , good luck

I actually found my receipt from last year. It was gas line that I purchased. Still had the receipt since I had some other large purchases on it. Talk about luck though. After inspecting the line it certainly looks like a small pin hole got into the inner core of the line. Anyway at least I found it.

that's a sweet Softail you got too. Would've hated to hear a disaster sprout from that little leak!

I appreciate it. I think it would have been a slow leak at first but still could have been a very bad thing.

Just shows that it pays to give your bike a real good once-over every now and then. Funny how something like that just caught your eye.

I know what you mean. I always check over my bike like crazy. Esspecially with it being an older EVO.
