ive had to do this several times. crank the bike, when the pipes get hot it will re-melt the rubber. take a dripping wet rag and make very quick hard wipes

A penny will also work...the copper is softer than the chrome so it won't scratch it.

Thanks for the suggestions. For my particular problem the oven cleaner worked, but only after warming up the pipes for a minute or two. They look good as new, whew! Now, how do I train the wife?

I tried the penny trick and it worked great took the burnt rubber right off and did not leave a scratch.

+1 That's what I would do.

easy-off. keep it off the aluminum may take several repeats... eye protection...water hose near-by... caution. easy-off has a really high ph.

I posted in another thread about the same issues, my step-fathers "old school" way of removing rubber from exhaust is go for a long ride and heat your pipes up fairly well. Then while using a welding glove (thick leather glove) wipe it off with your gloved hand. Works like a charm and will not mark up any surface of pipes as you're using leather vs metal or a cleaner.

I had a little, not much on my 2 into 1 right at where my heal rests on the footboard....it cleaned off easy with an sos pad....I took the heat shield off an put strip of exhaust wrap where my heal would hit the exhaust, reinstalled the heat shield an problem solved.

Mothers R3 racing rubber remover seems to work well, too. Its designed to take melted tire chunks off of track cars.
