Default Stock Chrome Pulley or Cover

I have a 2002 Fatboy that I bought a set of chrome stock wheels with chrome rotors. I wanted to know if any of you guys out there have gone with the chrome pulley cover or do you have a stock chrome pulley. Just wanted some opinions.

My FXSTC has a cover. With it's spun aluminum wheel. you can't see through to the back side to see it's only a cover.
My FXCWC has a chromed stock pulley I got off ebay.

I've seen the covers and they look good. ***** Shiny also has a great deal on a chrome exchange for stock pulleys if you wanted to go that route. Joe does quality work.

Got a cover on mine. The one from JP cycles came with chrome torx bolts and even the socket for them. I love it. Made that 15 year old pulley look much better. Polishes up great and you cannot see it from the other side.

Do a little search on here, several guys have had the bolts break on pulley, after installing a cover. I think they were reusing the bolts, or purchased incorrect bolts.
Myself, I had my pulley chromed. Chroming was not much more expensive than the cover.

Agree, a cover is $50 and an exchange with ***** Shiny is $125. Still the same amount of work.

The correct bolts are one-time use so reusing them is asking for trouble.

My g/f and I both have the cover (came with the bikes we bought used) and they look great. You could chrome the sprocket but that will mean at least some downtime for your ride unless you have a spare. Cover is an hour's job tops.

I have heard of bolts backing out of rotors, pulleys and yes even on the covers. People normally end up putting stuff on wrong or don't use loctite or don't use the proper grade bolt or nut etc. We just have to keep a good eye on our bikes and check these bolts often. So yes if you pull your pulley off follow the proper steps with the correct fasteners and ALWAYS check your work often.
