ME880 rear tire gone after only 8000!!!
 

I must have gotten a bad one. I put on a new rear tire last yer a Metzler 880. Went to Sturgis and Laughlin and riding 8000 miles in 10 months and noticed today the cord is showing.....

Dunlops lasted 10,000 miles! With 41,000 miles on the bike I guess its time to go back to the Dunlops.

I only get between 5-7000 out of a rear metzler 880 tire .

Where was it made? Brazil or Germany?

I have 13k on my E3. Not looking to.replace it anytime soon.

for me rear Germany front brazil . I never had a bad metzler tire just don't get the milage some people do .

Metzler's are a bit softer than Dunlops for better traction overall.
The tradeoff is that they tend to have a shorter lifespan.

Me, I'm not as concerned about overall tire life as I am my ass.
So I'll live with the shorter life if it helps keep me and the bike upright when its wet out.

Highway miles will really beat up a tire.
I would say 8k-10k is about average for a rear tire with some highway mixed in.

Metzellers mileage has always sucked. I was talking to the Pirelli rep yesterday at Ron Ayers Motorsports and told him i tried the Night Dragon once but 5000 is all i could get out of it...Never again....I am pretty sure the ME880 wouldn't last much longer so it won't go on my bike....EIII or Commander II next time here...Currently running a regular Commander.

Down here in South FL, we use a asphalt/shellrock combo and it eats up tires well before when the normal miles others get

Additionally heat can play into it, when really hot and on hot roadways the tire is softer then riding in the cold, so that can prematurely wear it out

but 8k is that really a crappy deal? Yes the E3 can go longer, but at what cost? that tire has the stiff harder middle rubber and a slightly softer sdiewalls, but I would bet they do not handle nearly what the 880 did, so the trade off is handling versus longer life.

Softer = better grip.

I was so impressed with the handling of the rear I just put one on the front too.

depends on how much U've read in here, I have seen many threads and post's that's talked about the Met's don't last as long.

The new tire out now that's supposed to last longer is the Michelin Commando 11.

Google it and U'll see they are claiming 20 -25K on these new rears.

several members have put them on , but no results yet on mileage cause they just came out last NOV-DEC.
