What's next?

So I'm getting the bike pretty close to where I want it performance wise, but as always, I want a little more. After a long trip touring 2-up I kind of missed the low end torque of my 255 cam, but all in all, I love the mid-range power of my new RS575. It picks up around 3500 rpm and hauls a$$ right up to the red-line. What can I do to keep what I have, but gain a little low end back? 6th gear is just about useless with the bike loaded unless you're sticking to the left lane on the interstate. I know there is now perfect cam, so what else can I do??

Get a hayabusa?!,? Lol... What is your top end? What is comfortable cruising with your setup now? When I say comfy I mean like can you do 75mph and not get beat by the vibe and breeze. Thanks!

Head work? Seems to be the next logical step. I have the 259e cam in my Lo so I hope to get the heads done this winter to compensate for the low end torque I think the 259e is missing as mine pulls like crazy from 3-5k rpms.

try a 4 degree retard gear not sure what the intake closing is on your new cams.just looked and the intake closes at 41 degrees. the gear may do what you want, woods sells them and easy to install,

I'm gonna look into that. I'm not 100% sold on heads yet and I'm not looking for bigger numbers, just to take better advantage of what I have.

Right, probably no to the hayabusa... Anyways, I can sit real nice at 75 in 5th, but with my old cams I was in an easy 6th by then. At 75 the bike seemed to be pushed a little hard in 5th, but with the new cams it just purrrs. It's actually funny, I was in 6th, doing about 80-85mph, then came to a construction zone and slowed it to about 50. I decided to try a easy climb back up to speed and it pulled up nice (2-up, fully loaded with gear) but cruising at 75 it seemed to be lugging. 6th at 80mph and it's making enough power to pull hard up any hill and pass. not much middle ground with this cam.

So after the advice from Blk and Chrome, and some research, I'm gonna pull the trigger on a +4 cam gear. I'm not sure that it will do what I want, and could even make things worse, but if it does what I think, I'm gonna love it! Anyone know where to get one besides Wood's? I like to shop around...

From what I have been told, and looking at pages of numbers, my cam should kick in a little earlier, and since the 575 pulls forever in mid and high, I'll never notice the lose on the top end. There's no perfect cam out there, but I'm crossing my fingers that this will get me close.

2 into 1 piipes will bring the torque curve down a bit too.

I do however agree with the headwork being key. The cams and jugs are just a small part of the performance upgrade. A good set of heads bring the bike a whole new level of power.
