absolute best stereo for softails ?
 

I"m not interested in getting a fairing.

I ordered a cheap $100 on from ebay, complete garbage, distorted at any volume , couldn't here when riding, junk

I know now , that I absolutly want some tunes when I ride, so does anyone have any that are very good that don't use a fairing like a street glide ?

I like my HD Boom windshield mount, but I've heard there is better out there. It's not the best at highway speed, but it's not horrible.

skull candy ear buds and a cheap walkman FM clip on. just clip it on the left pocket for easy thumb/forefinger control adjustment. grea sound at any speed. total cost, $35.00

I've heard about the skull candy before, is there something special about are they made specifically for motorcycles ?

is there something about them that regular ear buds don't have ? I've never thought about ear buds . . can you still here the music if you just put in one ear bud, so you can hear the road noise and traffic and everything else ? I'm not sure If I'd like not being able to hear traffic around me, I'd have to try it and see how it goes

So far it seems like the Boom windshield is the way to go .. but if they are just "ok" on the highway, and still $500, I may pass

I like the boom windshield mount too, but I can't live without my windshield bag. And 500 is spendy - WTF did I just say.

I've been looking into this recently, and I was thinking of getting some Bluetooth earphones so I could use my Iphone, also there is ones that have a built in 4gb memory, they go in your ear and a band runs round the back of your neck, only cheap on Ebay so I'm not sure what they are like, I've also looked at Oakley sunglasses with built in mp3 player, these are not cheap and would probably be my last option.

I don't have a stereo system, but have read some really great things about both J&M and Cycle Sounds handle bar mount systems:

I know I probably shouldn't ride with earbuds in, but I too have to have my music. I was able to convince myself that theres gotta be some deaf folks out there ridin and they have to rely on their other senses to keep them safe, right? Well, that's how I justifed it anyways.
So I use my Iphone and have some $20 Rocketfish buds.
I do wear a 3/4 helmet so the buds poppin out is not an issue.
Maybe in the future I'll look into a bar mounted stereo, but I gotta pay the bike off first.

I use ear buds when I ride. It is not a perfect way for music. I have a half helmet and I have had a bud pop out of my ear once in awhile. You can hear the music pretty good and yet still hear the road noise and what is going on around you. Depending on how high you have the volume up I guess. Again, it is not a perfect way but I still get to hear music. For me the music helps me relax and enjoy the ride. I have tried several different types of earbuds and the ones with a silicone/rubber end to them seam to stay in the ear better and cancels out more noise.
