Installed the Harley 4 inch curved pullback risers yesterday.
Took about an hour and a half, (only because I just took my time and tripple checked everything). I could probably do it again in about 20 minutes. The install was straight forward and easy (just like Smileman said). All the cables and wires were long enough and I didn't even have to loosen any of the wires. Just took off the old risers and installed the new ones. The brake hose was my biggest worry but it is long enough. But anything more than the 4 inchs would require a new brake line.

those risers should be stock on fatboys.. they made a big difference in the feel of the stock bars for me.

Ya I think they should be on the bike as stock. There a lot more comfortable than stock. The instructions say to use RED Loctite on the 4 screws to the caps. From my experiences with RED that seems like real overkill. Did any of you use RED? I just used Blue and torqued to spec

 

I've been riding an Ultra for several years and I decided I wanted a Fatboy for day trips. I found a 2012 Fatboy with just under 2000 miles and lots of extras. I bought it yesterday. I don't even have it home yet, but I already know I'm going to need a set of these risers. It looks like I need to order the risers and a set of bushings. Other than the tools and locktite, is that all I need for the changeout? Warren, would you happen to have the part numers for the 4" risers and the bushings you used?

Have fun but remember to cover your tank and front fender with thick towels. When you loosen the last bolt on the old risers the bars will fall forward. An extra set of hands wouldn't hurt.

You're very welcome Warren! I told you it was a piece of cake.

When I posted my install pictures some of the forum members were concerned that using red loctite (per manufacturers instructions) would make it almost impossible to loosen the bolts in the future. I decided to use the red anyway out of concern that the bolts might vibrate loose at an inopportune moment.


Now I have a question for you Warren...do the risers bring the bars far enough back for you? It's been so darned cold in the Northeast I haven't had the chance to do any decent riding to see if it helps the upper back/shoulder pain.

EDIT..Looking at your photos I'm wondering if the bars don't look a little high. The turn signals look they are pointing down too. It might just be the angle of the photo but I think maybe you can drop the grips down a good2-3 inches?

Thanks for the info. I think I'll leave them with the blue loctite for now just in case I want to adjust them a little. Because the wiring is internal to the handlebars you cant adjust the angle of the grips and controls to much. I tried to put the bars at the same angle they were at but I'm not sure I did. I am going to drop them a little and try it. Good thing I used blue. I'll let you know when I do.

The pullback is more than I expected based on the chart on the HD site.

So far I really like them. I had a one inch pad behind my "Bikers Friend" to move the backrest forward. I removed that pad, which moved me back an inch and I'm still more relaxed than I was. I think you'll like them. It's been in the 70's here in florida. (ya I'm rubbing it in a little).
