road king bags on a deluxe?
Does anyone know if bags from a road king classic will fit a deluxe? I searched but all I found was bags for sale.

they will but you will have to also buy cycle vision brackets.

Ok, now I have to ask, why cycle vision? Why brackets at all? Do the bolt holes not line up? Help me out here.

Maybe I should explain what i currently have. I have hd hard leather standard
Deluxe bags with docking hardware. Im not really looking for detachable. I just need nags big enough to fit more than a baby shoe. |
The RK bags will not line up with the mounting location on a softail. So you need to get a conversion bracket from one of the many vendors that make them (cycle visions seems to be most popular). Also since the touring bags are larger they need a bracket at the bottom to help support the added weight, or over time the ABS will crack and fail. Here is a link to cycle visions http://www.cyclevisions.com/index.ph...k-cv7200a.html Your exhaust will also have to be below your rear axle or it will hit the bags. I know sometimes a visual make more sense. Also doesnt matter if you put RK leather bags or the ABS bags on, all touring bags mount the same. If you need more help keep asking. I am running RK custom bags on my FB and love them.

I have RK bags on my Deluxe, I made my own removable brackets for them. No need for the crossbar at the bottom either. If I get a change this week I'll take some pics and postem up.

I have a set of RK bags with the filler pieces on my Deluxe. I used the CV brackets. I even mounted a full blown TourPak on it, Super Glide Engine guard w/ lowers, and a fairing.
So I have a "Delutra" . Even added Cruise Control so makes a great road bike now. Dwight Pics are here - https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-please-2.html See post #527 |

I had RK classic bags on my crossbones with cyclevisions baggertail brackets. the holes on the bags don't line up to the same place they would mount on a softail. Here's some pics to give you an idea of what they would look like on a softail.

Thanks so much for the pics and advice. Those bags almost look like they stick out beyond the fender.
|
They follow the line of the fender (it's a fatboy fender) pretty close, if they stuck out further it was minimal and didn't look like they didn't go with the bike at all. If you need bigger bags and don't want the look of hard bags it's a good and reasonably affordable way to go. There are always tons of RKC bags on sale in the touring parts classifieds.
