Best all around armored textile jacket
#31
I tried a few, including the Tourmaster and HD offerings. Tourmaster was actually pretty hot to wear in the summer. HD was too thin, felt like wearing a T shirt would offer about the same protection.
But found a happy medium in terms of comfort and protection in this Vanson Vent Max 4. Good, wide armor in back, shoulders and elbows. Mesh is 1000 Denier Cordura, and wide weave for venting. Nothing will protect you like leather, but it's stronger than most mesh.
New Old Stock on Ebay for 200 clams. I think anything other than black is better for summer riding, to help deflect the sun and heat. And yes, more visibility.

Some suggestions for those who plan to buy new jackets. All are textile.
Dainese Air Frame. Removable wind breaker
Tour Master Flex Series 3. Converts to mesh jacket
Speed and Strength 7 sins . Removable insulated vest liner
Revit Airwave. Mesh jacket for summer
RS Taichi High Protection. Removable wind breaker, my favorite for styling and protection
These are mostly for San Diego's warm/mild weather. If you are looking for some colder climate these are good brands, check their websites and you should find something that works for you.

The best I've owned is the Teknic Freeway, but sadly they went out of business. It's crazy warm, completely waterproof, and has a ton of pockets. No good above 80-85 degrees, but the best 3-season jacket I've used except for.....
BMW Rallye 3. Ridiculously expensive, and you look silly riding a Harley with a BMW-logo astronaut suit on, but hands-down the best gear I own. With a Gerbing's liner and Under Armour, it's good in the cold, and it makes riding in 115 degree temperatures tolerable. BMW makes the best armor in the business, period.
