I have seen on here where guys are swapping out their suspension but usually not for wear or that the shocks are not working. They upgraded and went to something else. Good luck Dude.
I replaced my first set of Softail shocks at 50,000, the second set at 114,000, and the third set is still going at 180,000. Both replacement sets were Progressive Suspension shocks.
I find that when the shocks are worn out, rear tire life drops badly.
I have been wanting to put progressive shocks on my FXSTC. I'm getting about 9,000 miles now on my rear tire so I don't think tire wear is an issue. I just prefer a little stiffer shock feel in the rear and the stockers are too bouncy for my taste.
I replaced the stock shocks because they sucked. I had maxed out the preload and they still bottomed out. I went with Progressive 422s over Shotgun because I ride solo and I don't need to raise and lower the back end.
We changed out the factory shocks on our '12 FLSTC at around 300 miles and went with the Shotgun Shock.
THE best ride out there, period!!!
The wife and I both have bad backs and riding on the stock shocks where killing us. Now with the SS we can ride all day with out any problems, except those cagers with their cell phones.
