Default Dunlop D407 200mm rear tire NOT a multi compound tire

I am looking to replace the stock D407 rear tire on my 2012 Fatboy.
I was told by more than one person that I should get better than 6000 miles out of the 200mm D407 tire as it is a muti compound tire.
Well after doing some research I have found out the the stock 200mm D407 is NOT a multi compound tire. http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tire...e-series/d407/ Now I have found out that the Dunlop American Elite gen 2 200mm rear tire IS a multi compound tire. http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tire...merican-elite/ So it looks as though the American Elite will be a higher mileage tire than the stock D407. Just look at the bottom of each page and you will see the specs for the 200/55/17 tires.
I post this as misinformation about these tires runs rampant and for other Fatboy owners this info. may prove valuable.

I'd kill to find a tire that'll last more than 6500 miles. I've tried dunlop's and metzler's and no luck. I'm planning on trying the new Michelin 200 tires next. But if they don't last, I'll try these.

So are you saying you haven't tried the Dunlop American Elite tires?

I have run Metzler, Dunlops and 1 VRUBBER rear tire on my rocker. I get about the same mileage out of both the metz and dunlop and both handle well, but the dunlop is much more price friendly...I would NEVER run a vrubber again as it delaminated half way thru it's tread life...scary...I stick with the dunlop.

That's about all I ever got. I'll add Pirelli Night Dragons to that list too. Nice tire for grip and smoothness but crap on wear.

Never tried the Dunlop elite but I have Avon venom (41 and 42) on right now and they are around 6300 and I am in need of a rear but the front is very resilient. The rear has seen some rolling burnouts and more abuse because of the motor it has but it could also be the rider lol. I think I could get around 8000 out of a rear and 11000 out of a front. that is with proper use and not abuse but that’s just a thought we'll see what really happens.

I'm 10K+ on my stock 2012 FB Dunlops and I'm pretty hard on the throttle. Are you a big rear-brake-only type rider?

I had to "enlighten" a Dunlop rep to this fact at Sturgis this year. He argued with me and I asked him if he wanted to bet a new set of American Elites. He then looked in the catalog and said "see, it says Multi-compound". I said read what the asterisk means.

Most HD dealers will mislead you the same way.

The "Tires" article in AIM magazine a few issues back would have let you know this ahead of time.

It's all about riding style and maintenance..I keep my tires at the pressure they're supposed to be, and I don't tear *** around every bend in the road, and I have 8,500 miles on both dunlops right now.. still have tread left, but looking to replace them already. But 8,500 isn't bad.
