Classic Heritage 2007 brakes inqury?
 

Iam getting Classic Heritage softail 2007.. and this will be my first Harley .. was a Honda rider for years ... never tried better brakes than VTX1800 N for today :)
So i was wondering .. what about Heritage 2007 brakes?? technology?? ABS? what about panic brakes and tyres lock?

With inverted forks and dual fronts the VTX is much better. But, the Heritage brakes are plenty good for the way we ride these bikes.

Only once did I have brake fade on the rear while riding the blue ridge Parkway on our Heritage

I let my Indy install his X brand pad on the rear before that trip and I didn't like them. I had already installed Lyndal's on the front and they didn't fad.

After getting home I replaced the rears with Lyndal Z pads and have never had an issue since, Even on the dragon this past summer she never faded a bit.

I am sold on the Z pads and they are about the same $$ as MoCo's pads, also their is about 90% less dust on the rims and are claimed to last longer.. That I can't say yet, but they do have over 15K on them so far.

I ride conservatively and go light on the back break and have never had to lock up either front or back on my 08. So at 20k my rears are just now needing their first replacement. Fronts were changed out at about 13k as I recall.

ABS wasn't available on my 08 Heritage. I'm a big believer in abs so my next bike will definitely have it. As well as tubeless tires which also weren't available in 08 but now are. Had a flat on the PA turnpike with 5k on the rear tire. Had to have the bike towed to local dealer and $400 later I was back on my way with a new tire. With tubeless tires I could've fixed it myself on the roadside. I was lucky that the flat happened only an hour before closing time. Otherwise I would've had to spend the night at a hotel.

I don't believe abs even came on this old a bike pretty sure it was 08 or 09 up. I am no speed racer but I believe my brakes are just fine. I can stop as hard as I want with 1 or 2 fingers on the front brake lever and skid the rear at will.

fwtw I have found the limits on my brakes once riding 2 up down into the bottom of Black Canyon in Colorado last year a 13% grade or so. Had rear brakes completely boil and fade out to nothing left me with 1st gear and front brakes to complete the decent which is what everybody else was doing also.

Once they cooled off after we sat around a the rest area at the dam for 45 minutes they went back to being normal brake pedal etc and away we went. hth
