1998 Heritage, what's the market value?
I have been looking for a second old skool softail for a while, either a Deluxe or Heritage. I found one on craigslist that has 83000km(52000miles). Is mileage too high? Never own a Evo. I still miss my 06 Fatboy, got to have a Softail! Thanks! Alex

I would look for one with less miles unless its a steal..

According to KBB - it is worth 7690 retail if in excellent condition. Trade in is $5610. So, maybe you can talk them down to somewhere between those two numbers.

I just paid less for an '06 fatboy with 5000 miles last month (all chromed out)
I'm thinking '98 heritage is $6000-6500 ... I would have said $5500-6000, but it's been a little while since I've seen a running big twin for $5500 |
For a 16 year old bike, 52,000 is low mileage in my book. Far anything more than a few years old, NADA, KBB, etc. are pretty much worthless. You need to look at the bike up close and personal to decide what it is worth yo you. A lot of sellers will not allow test rides, but I personally would not buy a 16 year old scooter without riding it. Good luck in your quest!

IMHO the Evo engine is good for an easy 150K if.... The oils have been changed regularly and not had the pi$$ ran out of it...
Only other item on the bike is Bearings.. (Wheel, swingarm, neck, and drive belt)...... and all of them together won't Break the bank if needed.. Some won't like statement,,, this but the Economy down turn make Harley's so cheap 2-5 yrs ago,, that So many now think that's the Norm.. I don't think so or agree. A good used bike will save you $$$$$ vs a New one and most, but not all still have a LOT of miles in them before trouble will arise if they've been taken care of... And I Think at least 50% of them have You just have to find the Good one for you.. IMO 80K mile is about 1/2 the usable miles on a Post 84 Harley,, By that I mean before you need to start replacing part and then afterwards you can do another 100K easy on them.. Just my .02 cents worth... .. |
Pretty much what oct said. EVO's are a great motor, possibly the best motor HD produced and arguably better than the TC for reliability and certainly for ease of adjustments / repairs.
The bike you are looking at is near the end of the EVO production and that is a good thing. Just like the TC's now, they had all the kinks worked out by then. You can predict 80 to 100k a top end refresh. 150k rebuild the entire motor for another 150k... and another... |
That bike down here in the lower 48 would go for low $7's tops.
Up there, probably tack on a couple more $$$thousand. Make sense? |
Thanks guys! I have looked at the bike last nite, POS! Cylinder base leaks oil, rust everywhere. The only good thing is the new tires, that's it! I offer him $4500 he wants $7000. Good from far, far from good. :(
