Default fitting options for saddlebags

i got smoe leatherworks springer style bags, but im having some issues trying to get them to fit on my deluxe.

ive got the jp cycles brackets, and i think they sit too far from the bike, they are angled in.

ive also got the easy brackets- they fit closer but the bottom of the bag sits out from the bike due to the axle nut.

im contemplating cutting a hole in the bags so that they sit closer to the bike.

i know that the springer bags are recessed, so they sit tight against the wheel...i figure if i have an internal bag inside the saddlebags, then having a hole cut into them so they fit tight wouldnt compromise the contents, but im not convinced this is the best or only solution.

anyone else experience this?

cheers,

Tim

If you are cutting holes in the bags to clear the axle nut covers, remember that the holes will have to be large enough to take into account the entire travel of the swingarm. It might not be the best option if you want to keep the contents dry. Just my 2 cents...
