Default Anyone running a sprung solo seat?

I want to change out the seat on my Slim to something that looks more vintage.
I really like the looks of a solo seat with the coil springs.
What I don't like is the "kit" that has to be used. It just looks cheesy, IMO.
Has anyone come up with an option for the kit?
Also, I'm only 5'5' (I was taller when I was younger). Is the sprung seat going to set me up higher or will the springs allow it to sink down some. I'm 195 lbs (I was lighter when I was younger).
It's hell getting old.

Haven't tried any other set up except what came stock on the Crossbones. I did change the stock seat to the more thinly padded and smooth leather covered 1925 seat in large part due to your concern about height. Having a sprung seat will inherently sit you up higher. A good quality spring will not really give with just your weight. I weigh over 230 lbs and although I am sure the springs on my set-up compress a bit when I sit on the bike, I would hardly state that I come down lower than the seat alone does. You could get smaller springs or maybe springs that are less stiff but I think you'd find yourself bottoming out all the time on bumps. It's amazing how much difference an inch makes. I lady friend on mine had a Crossbones as well and she put 2 inch springs on hers (stock springs are 3 inch) because of how short she was. I sat on her bike and could feel myself bottoming out just sitting on the bike. The Crossbones tried to compensate by adding the Profile Low suspension as stock equipment on the Crossbones but the seat is still relatively higher up than say that of a Deluxe or Heritage.

Not sure what to suggest given your height. I'm 4 inches taller than you and I feel that the seat being any taller would bug me. Hence my swapping out the stock seat which was more padded and made about an inch or so of height difference. The only other thing going for you in terms of height with a sprung seat is that they are generally far narrower at the nose. This means your thighs come closer together increasing your reach to the ground.

If this is your bike can you shoot a pic of just the seat area?
I'd like to see what the seat pan looks like installed.
Thanks

Unhappy yup

Yup you're sure enough going to sit higher mostly because of the way everything mounts. I changed the stock seat out on my 08 bones to the 1925 seat and it managed to lower me just a bit. I picked up a Corbin seat on egay that doesn't use the springs but mounts to the frame and Im probably another inch lower. My favorite though is the 1925 seat unless I'm going more than a hundred miles. Super comfortable to me but on a long ride it puts my pecker asleep. Not good.

Ya!

I learned this pretty early on as I researched the seat height matter myself shortly after getting mine. At the time, the Deluxe was the only other model that had the Profile Low suspension as stock equipment. Eventually the Fatboy Lo got them and now the Slim. Not sure if any other models come from the MoCo with the lowered shocks.
