Effective today (Dec 1), motorcycle riders in North Carolina will be able to proceed through a red light, if they have waited for at least three minutes, and if it's safe to do so.
The new law is intended to deal with some traffic lights that have trouble detecting motorcycles. This is basically the same law I've been asking for here on BNO, for California.

I don't know who worked so hard for this new law, but I appreciate their efforts. There's a lot of intersections with the magnetic sensors that just won't trigger a traffic signal if a bike or small vehicle is sitting there.
Thanks, glad to hear that. This is news I can use, but I'm pizzed that I now have no excuse to take my helmet off and throw it at the red light (when it's safe of course).

Does anybody have a link to this new law on any of the NC Government webpage. I would love to find this and print it out and put it in my saddlebag, Having the law code would be nice if I ever get pulled. I have been running red lights for a while here in East Charlotte. I am just hoping that running redlights legally will be as fun as it is running them when they were not. LOL
