Help mounting a fat bob tank to a sportster
Hi guys,
My buddy low-sided his sportster so he is using it as an excuse to mount a bigger tank. He bought a fat bob tank off Ebay he is having me mount to the bike.
My plan is to cut the sportster tank along the lines I've drone and use the material along the bottom to make a bracket that will in turn be welded to that inside portion of the fat bob tank.
Thoughts?
Also any tips on using a cutoff wheel and welder on a used gas tank so I don't blow myself up would be appreciated.
I know the Dyna was probably fuel injected so I will need a vaccuum petcock that threads into the tank.

I am saying this only to give you another thought instead of trying to doubt your choice. I don't know about a 5 gallon tank but you could get a 4.5 gallon sportster tank and save yourself all the headache of trying to make it fit. I don't think that extra .5 will be worth all the trouble. Unless of course you got that tank for free or something. But even then I would try and sell it for the cost of the 4.5 and go that route, myself.

I don't know if this will help, here's a link to a SuperGlide tank conversion over at XLF

I can't help on the conversion, but if there is any doubt about there still being any fumes in the tank I would not weld or cut on it, you can take the cap off and set it in the sun for a day or two and check it to see if it still smells..Or as I learned in welding school, when you weld or cut gas tanks you fill them with water almost full and do your welding above the air pocket...
