Default 1979 sportster photos

Hello all,
I'm looking for good close-up photos of the original gas tank decal and the original oil tank decal. I have a guy that makes decals for me, but I need to give him good photos of the decals. I'm restoring a 1979 and just need decals to finish it.
Thanks!

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. There were two models that year and more than one style of decal, so it ain't easy to answer your query! Check one of the on-line parts websites, like this one, where you can see the options. You may also be able to still buy the correct stock decals.

Thank you! I'm looking for a 1979 XLCH.
Where are you in the UK?
I've spent some time in Derby and Chesterfield myself.

I don't have a photo but the 1979 - 1985 parts manual show only one style fuel tank decal and that was the "Harley Davidson" spelled out in bold letters. it came as a factory part in two colors one was gray and the other black & white. I am going to post a photo out of the parts manual but I may still be on newbie restriction. I did not see a part listed for an oil tank decal in the 79 - 85 manual.

Hi Jim,

I went to college in Derby, back in the late '60s, which is also where I started my motorcycling career! I now live 40-50 miles North of London, not far from the M1 motorway.

I can't provide any photos of the decal for that tank, however I recently bought some old decals from eHarleyParts and it looks as if they may have the correct originals in stock!
