I've run with driving lights off the forks before. Really makes a nice difference.
With the cost of very effective headlight bulbs coming down, I've found it more economical to get a great headlight "bulb" and get the same, or better, coverage than adding driving lights.
We have been in the process for awhile of testing different aftermarket bulbs. We should have a good variety of replacement headlight bulbs available in the next month.
These guys make some really nice (expensive) lights. http://www.motolight.com/product/Fen...%20Light%20Set
I've seen them in action and they look great from the "other motorist" point of view.
Definitely a safety enhancing mod.

I switched to custom dynamics leds. So my front lights are now bright white driving lights and then when you hit the turn signal the outer ring turns orange and blinks. Then goes back to running light when done blinking. Pretty slick.
i've been running the H.D. oval crash bar light,s for about 100,000 miles, on my '06 "R". They mount off my adjustable highway pegs. Removing the top clamp use its base as a pattern transferring to a piece of bar stock. A holed centered on the bar, drilled and tapped to fit the peg bolt on the pegs will secure it to the bike and allow for L to R adjustment. You can loosen the allenhead bolt that secures the peg to gain vertical adjustment. Thes give me great side shoulder illumination but more importantly have made me much more visible to cagers. Since the install I'vee not had any idiot pull out in front of me.
I used that same wiring kit when I added my aux lighting. It's a good kit. They give you plenty of wire to mount the wiring most any place you need to. I like the relay as it keeps me from forgetting to turn the lights off. I have it wired into the ignition circuit so that they only work when the ignition switch is on. I have a switch mounted on the bars so I can turn them off if needed.
(tip: make a wiring diagram when you're finished and put it in your service/repair manual. You won't remember how it's wired 6 months after you do it.)
The power block in this picture is something that I added, it's not part of the Kuryakin kit.
