Yep. I ride my 2001 1200s 80-90 every day and get 50 mpg. A 6th gear on mine would be too sluggish I think.

 

I made the 29tooth to 32 tooth mod on my 2000 xl 1200 and love it. It makes 5th gear act like a 6th. Its the best mod i have ever done to my bike. I was going to trade it in in the next couple of years until this mod. The 32 tooth costs about $104 from sportsterstuff.com. If you do it reach out to me and will be happy to give you a few fyi's. Takes about 1 hr to do as you have to grind some of the dogs a little to fit it inside the cover. nothing substantial and can be done with a small dremal too. it just your gas mileage 2mpg intown and 6-7 mpg highway.

 

it just may be that the Indian Scout coming out has a 6 speed will motivate HD to come out with a similar sportster especially in the 1200T
