dealer cost? very interesting.....
 

so ive been searching the web for parts/mods because I want to buy a softail slim to have as a second bike with my 48 and found this website...i'm curious if I can get one for 14k now...i'll travel within a 4 hour ride from home if I have to. the price ive been getting in new york is $16,300 for a charcoal slim.

I have a 48 and like the idea of the slim. I am looking at those myself.

Send emails to long island city, they have three of them or maybe more. See what offers you get. If you are willing to pay 14 you shouldnt have much problem buying one

There is a 2014 with 850 miles for 14400 4 hours away, would be surprised if they didnt sell for 14 or even less

Well, dealer cost is not a savings they are prepared to pass on to you. It's what they owe HD for the bike. It does not keep their lights on. They may consider selling below MSRP if they have an incentive at the time, but many will get MSRP if they are patient. I know with cars there are monthly costs and quotas for the dealer as well as quarterly incentives so you may have luck if you target those windows.

I know many see the dealer as an enemy who gouges them and whom they'd like to give no business or profit to. I'm lucky enough to have a great dealer that offers top notch service on every level and I'm happy to support their business as part of my cost. Generally they give me a deal below MSRP, but I would never expect them to pay dealer cost unless some pretty unusual circumstances lined up. Some may make enough perks on volume to drop a few to that level, but not many.

I was there last week. they didn't seem to ready to bargain, even with the used custom slim they had on the floor.
the info helps a little because now I have some confidence in asking for a better price when the guy gives me a price of 16,300. I paid full msrp for my 48 last year and didn't argue. if I can save 1-2000 on my next bike, good for me.

are you really asking me to feel sorry for Harley Davidson and pay msrp? lol REALLY?

No....in a round about fashion he's telling you not to be surprised when a dealer doesn't sell you the bike for $14k. Frankly, why should they? Sure they'll cut some breaks....but $2300? Not likely.

I guess someone has to go to the dealer for new bikes in order for me to get used deals... lord knows i never will. But thanks. :)

I really don't expect to save $2,300, but at least now I feel I can ask for a better price than $16,300. the taxes in NY will cost me around $1,400, and all the little extra crap...so now the bike is over $18,000

We all work hard - well I did until I retired! It's the price out of the door you should be concentrating on IMHO, not how the bottom line is arrived at. Different dealers will do their sums in different ways, especially if you want a few juicy extras. And in my experience visiting a dealer in person is likely to give much better results than just phoning around.

My dealer include shipping and assembly in the price so they have some wiggle room but the other closest dealer does not and they will not budge on the price on the bike.
