Default Removing right side cover of oil tank

I'm gonna try and remove the rigt side cover of the oil tank on my wofe's 2010, 1200 nightster. I don't have to take the oil tank off the frame do I?

The shop manual doesn't specify. At least as far as I could tell.

Remove the seat.
Remove the dipstick.
Coming in from the left side, carefully insert a flat blade screwdriver under the top edge of the right cover and pry up. That will pop the retainer clip loose.
