Default 2015 Forty Eight with SE parts

Sorry for what maybe easy Qs to answer and/or has been answered before but….

I’m currently looking at a 2015 Forty Eight. With that I’d like to add some Screamin’ Eagle accessories.

1. Part # 64900209 Street Cannon Slip-on Mufflers.
2. Part # 65600155 Jet Black Header Pipes

And either this air cleaner kit:

3a. Part # 29080-09 Heavy Breather Performance Air Cleaner kit

Or this one:

3b. Part # 29000009A Round Sportster Stage 1 Air Cleaner Kit

I have two questions.

(I). What is the difference between the two air cleaner kits? The Heavy Breather is almost twice the cost as the other. Should I be considering one over the other? I do like the look of the round cleaner on the 48.

(II). Does installing the header pipes, mufflers, and air cleaner (all SE) necessitate a mandatory ECM programming? I just want to get an idea before heading to the dealership in case they say something about a “mandatory” reprogramming with the SE parts.

Thanks for any help.

My own opinion: If you want looks, buy the one that looks better to you. Otherwise I doubt you will feel any difference performance wise. That SE is some of the most overpriced and over hyped part HD has ever produced.

Thanks OddJack.

So it seems I can save the money on the Heavy Breather and get the Stage 1 kit.

So question (I) is answered.

Anyone have info on (II) and the mandatory reprogramming?

I believe the consensus is that if you do both you should remap. Now with that said there are many options. I also ride a 2015 48 and was considering exactly what you are doing including the dealer remap. I started poking around and decided to get a set of short shots from vance and hines.. I am still deciding on what air cleaner and I am leaning toward the VH Fulepak for my ECM needs.. I have 600 miles on my bike so I am waiting until after my 1K service to install everything.. I havent rules out just using the DK customs Fuel module either.. look around a little and youll see lots of options out there..

On my previous sportster I had intake and slip-ons (not a huge difference brand to brand as far as flow and how much the engine can use) I had a powervision flash tuner, one of the many cool things about it was that you could flash from stock tune to new tune and back, test riding one then the other. The bike ran okay with stock tune, but it was easy to feel and hear the difference. Now what one can hear and feel is not all the story. I would use a tuner.

Yeah, that seems to be what I'm reading everywhere. Now if I can only prepare for the "sticker shock" for the dealership to spend a minute to flash the ECM....

Looking to put together a package deal on the 2015 48 that's still on the showroom floor. Get the bike and some accessories installed in one shot.

Thanks. I was trying to recall what I paid for the flash when I had SE parts added to my Street Glide. I was thinking around $300.

You need the programming. I had both the Street Cannons and the SE air filter installed when I took delivery of my bike in January this year. Bike runs great and sounds better too.

Functionally, there is no substantial difference between the HB and the SE air filters. It's all about the looks.
