vintage tires
Does anyone know what brand of vintage tires that have a high mileage rating for my sportster48? I would like a whitewall and if the rear one will also work on the front? Most of the tires I've looked at says rear only. I'm sort of liking the firestone and Avon safety mileage. What do you think?

I haven't done much research yet myself... only just started looking as I'm saving up some cash and expect to put them on in the spring. But from what I've read, the vintage look tires are a little softer and wear quicker. I haven't seen or read of any with a "high mileage" rating. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful... also curious to read what others might suggest.

Don't know about Firestones, but Avons are good handling tires, all I run on my Harleys. Haven't seen anyone claim high mileage on them, though. General rule of thumb, good grip, faster wear. I mount my own tires, so losing a few thousand miles per tire isn't that expensive to me, would rather have that extra grip for the unexpected.
If it fits, you can run the rear on the front, just mount it with the direction arrow backwards. Might lose some rain traction with a backwards tire, though if it's got vintage tread design, probably won't matter as much - or be that great in the wet in the first place. Direction and tread explained here: http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/faqs |
I got stock Dunlops on mine which i could get in white wall. So far 15k on rear and not far from a tire change i'm guessing near 20k and front has little wear at 15k.
