jagg 4700 adapter. i think the thread locker gave up the ghost after all these years. i will call them during the week and have a talk about what happened.

it was more funny than it was scary. who runs around looking for their missile'd filter? i definitely get the gravity of the situation but, i just had to laugh at it and walk away with a new lesson and service item to watch out for. (WKNDS) if i didn't do my own work or had just started riding, i probably would have freaked out, called a tow and blah blah. i pulled over and looked the instantly knew what had gone wrong and took off up the street knowing exactly what i was looking for in the best case scenario and i did not want to see when i picked up that filter. benefit of knowing your bike. fun times.

it all turned out ok. could have been 1000 times worse looking at the oil drenched rear tire.

what sucks is i paid market price for a filter ($18) when i had just ordered 10 at $5.99 each... https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...l#post17204404

me too. considering how it's in there, it may have just been the thread locker. grbrown's response made me look back at the direction. found this:

it doesn't speak to the threaded mount. i figured it was secured some how. it's not horrible, from a serviceability standpoint anyway. it's replaceable if stripped or cross threaded.

Glad it wasn't an accident. That mount was problematic earlier in this thread? Are your new-ish rear brake pads saturated in oil?

Boots are now waterproof?

i wouldn't call it problematic, 90% of the time in my cases it's ID10T errors. shade tree me

it'd dependable i use one on my other bike too. i think the higher revs/vibs are causing the problems here. i think if the bike was unmolested, all would be fine. lots of folks use them without incident.

yes sir, enchanted repellent. jeans too. pads and rotor were covered oil. the bite tried to come back but, i left it alone after testing them a few times.

Default Changed out the battery

The bike had been doing strange things at start up for the past two months so i just went ahead and swapped out the battery with a a brand new one from the dealer.

had to get in there anyway to get all that oil out.
Oil all over everything
New battery all charged
Scrubbed up the guts and swapped out the batteries. Oil was all in there... all in everything .Started up like new, and the filter didn't fly off. Good to go.

You have the Jagg 4700 adapter I believe. That is still shown on the Jagg Sportster "kits"

I was just looking at their web site and saw this- adapter 4550
"The # 4550 is required for oil cooler installation on 2004-On Sportsters."
