2014 Iron 883 Ignition toggle switch HELP!

Hello everyone i've been looking into doing an ignition toggle switch since i've already had 1 key break on me and the new one is getting cut as well.

I went out to buy the toggle switch today and start on the project but i came across a problem. When i removed the ignition wires it only has 2 wires and no matter which way i connect them i can only get the lights to come on but i can't get it to start. Im not all that electrically inclined but i figured it was an easy project. Im obviously doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank You

i was thinking of doing the same thing with a dyna ig-off-acc switch after i install my hfsm. there are a few threads in this and the dyna forum of folks who've done it

Yeah I've been looking at a lot of different threads about it but in most of them I find that everyone has 3 wires coming out of the ignition . I'll keep looking on different forums to see if I find something

A thread on my ignition mod.

On the 2015, since the ignition switch connects to the BCM with only two wires, there are resistors connected (they are inside the switch). My FSM is in the garage at the moment so I can not get you the values right now. When the switch is in ACC there is a value and when in IGN a different value. This way the BCM knows what position the switch is in.

You could very easily install the toggle switch, you just need to have the correct resistor value.

If it works with different resistance, wouldn't it be possible then to measure the Ohms with a multimeter ?
You should get a reading when switch is ON, and different reading when in START position, right ?
Then just find a resistor of that value and add there wired with the toggle switch? Or is it really this simple...

Or you could just wire it in between the ignition switch and the computer. Leave ignition on and stash it behind the left side cover. Just a thought.

Just thought I'd add a link to RonniesHD microfiche parts finder.
It makes it easy to see the years when parts change numbers...
(like 2013/2014 Iron ign switches)

Got any links to those thready handy?

Looks like maybe a 2010 Fat Boy switch would work for the 2013 & older Irons,
but I"m not positive. This mod seems like something I'd like to do as well.

Thanks for any info!
