Torque loss and popping
Hello all, I sure this has been discussed many times but I'm trying to get fast advise. I have a 2009 Sportster 1200 and added new rush 3" slip-ons with 2" baffles. I love them but I loss quite a bit of torque and I'm having some popping on decel. What should be my next step? Air cleaner? Remap? I'm a noob btw and I'm trying to find the inexpensive way to fix this. Any help would be appreciated since I don't fully trust my local dealer. Thx.

Some like decel popping. It doesn't damage anything. But loss in torque probably needs to be addressed. Sound like you just need a good tune. Good luck

There are better, but at a much higher $$$$.
Also the lack of torque may have to do with if you are running baffles or not. Engines require proper back pressure to deliver good torque.

This can be resolved by adding some Thunder Torque Inserts to the exhaust, which will give you a nice bump in low and mid range power.
Here is a LINK that will help you determine which size you need for your set up.
Adding a tuner and an air cleaner will help your overall running of the bike, but you will still have that dip of torque without the Thunder Torque Inserts.
When you add a tuner and a free flowing air cleaner to the free flowing exhaust you already have, that is called Stage I upgrade.
Here is a LINK that gives a good overview of what a Stage I upgrade is, and the different choices there are in putting together a Stage I upgrade.
Not all Stage I upgrades are the same....to give you an idea of the kind of benefit you can get from a Good Stage I upgrade, check out the chart below.
Feel free to call or email us with any questions.

Thunder torque inserts, interesting, I've never heard of those. Do they affect sound? The popping doesn't bother me much, my buddies are actually jealous of it. I decided to do a stage 1 and had a screaming eagle air cleaner. I hope it cranks it up a bit, I feel like I'm abusing the bike past 65 mph.

On the air cleaner, I would avoid the mediocre SE A/C and get a true Stage I A/C. You can see a good selection HERE.
I would recommend reading the info at this LINK before starting to spend $ on a Stage I. It's always nice to spend only once (get the right components to meet your goals, the first time).
At 65 mph you're not abusing your Sporty. They like the higher RPM's. You can ride all day long at 80 mph, and it will be perfectly happy.

This is how your Rush 3" with 2" baffles will look with DK Customs TTI W158.
I have a well-tuned bike with no decel popping, but just installed the 158W TTIs to give the bike more low-mid range torque. I already tried the W258s on the rush and they fit but were too large for my liking....the 258Ws also toned down the pipes and I like loud. Also could not adjust (turn) the TTIs as the baffles got in the way.
