My new Sport
Here is my new machine. 2006 XL1200L, 11k miles, metallic fire red pearl. I got a great deal on it from a private seller who was very motivated to sell. I didn't actually think he'd take my offer, but he did. The guys at the local shop said I “stole” it.
Some things that attracted me to the bike – it was not overly customized, and did not have forward controls, as I like to be able to have me feet under me for shifting my weight and to lift my rear end up going over major bumps due to back problems. I liked the color, and the mostly chrome engine, which my other Harleys did not have. I also like the metal tank nameplates, which none of my other Harleys ever had. I tend to prefer spoked wheels over alloy, but I do like the design of these particular wheels. The bike came with a detachable sissy bar / luggage rack, and a touring seat which the guys at the shop said is a $379 Sundowner. So far, it seems to run & handle very well.
What I’ve done to it so far – Removed all of the stickers from the frame, removed the orange reflectors from the fork legs, removed the passenger footpegs, removed the sissy bar/luggage rack until I need it, installed the laydown license plate mount, installed smoke grey turn signal lenses.
Future plans – will likely install a round high flow air cleaner in order to show off more of that beautiful engine. I may install a solo seat if the back fender is not marred, but I kind like this seat, and sometimes when my *** gets numb, I scoot back to the passenger side for a few minutes, and can still reach the controls and bars easily … gets the blood flowing again by changing positions. Does anyone know if a taller fatter front tire will work with the stock front wheel?
Pics attached. I’m off to the garage to change engine oil, primary case oil, and new Deka Powersport battery.
