Default Just bought a 1997 XL1200 Sport...

Bought a '97 Sportster Sport a couple days ago. I paid a bit more for it than i wanted, but the PO was a Viet Nam vet, so I look at it as money well spent. Plus, it was the bike I wanted. I've owned 7 Ironheads and recently a 1999 883, but the Sportster Sport is the best handling, most comfortable Sporty Ive ever ridden. It seems to have a Bartel's 2-into-one pipe and a Kurakyn Hyper-charger (which I haven't read too many positive things about), but overall, this is the best Sportster Harley made.

I only see one plug in the front cylinder and the coil doesn't look right. Are you sure it's not a Frankensport?

Looks great. I am not a big fan of the a/c either but that is an easy swap

'96 and '97 Sports had one plug per cylinder. They went to dual plugs in '98...

I paid $3500 for mine without the original tank. The guy had the coating flake off so Harley gave him a new tank but not one with the checkered flag. I'm powder coating it anyway. Mine has 10,000 but I already spent close to $800 with coating and exhaust. I'm keeping mine for a around town bike and use my Deuce for long rides. Ya can't have too many guns or Harleys.
Thanks for the tip on the motor. I thought they were all alike from day one.

Mine has 16,000 miles on it, which is pretty good for a '97. It would be cool to have the Dual-plugged heads/ "W" cams and higher compression like the later models, but mine is plenty powerful enough for me.

Mine feels like I'm riding an engine with wheels. I've been riding since 1973 and have ridden dirt and street of all different types but this little thing is scary when you really get on it. I know the front wheel still has contact with the asphalt but not by much. It's the best investment I made on a fun vehicle or craft in a long time.
