Default Short Shots to loud

New xl1200c with short shots, too loud, replaced with stock, now runs like crap. What should I do to fix problem?

you are the first person that prefers stock exhaust over short shots. Perhaps reinstall you short shots and place DK Customs quiet TTI's (the "Q" in the number e.g. Q158)...an inexpensive but effective mod (deeper tone more torque...and lower decibels). Will cost you about $20 to try it out and see if it works to quiet down the exhaust and keep that rumble and performance. Check out their site...they have a short shots vid.

I placed the W258 model in my 3" Rush and it quieted the volume quite a bit with 2" baffles. I like loud so changed it to W158 just to smooth out any gaps in the powerband....not much difference in sound/volume (just a slightly deeper tone).

3" Rush with W258

3" Rush with W158

Are there baffles in your short shots now?

Do you have a tuner on the bike? Or did you have it tuned with the Short Shots install?

They should be renamed to A tiny bit quieter baffles!

Pull the baffles out, ride around for 2 weeks, put the baffles back in, they will seem much quieter after the amount of hearing loss you will have experienced during the 2 weeks with no baffles.

My Son ran his for a while with no baffles, loud and cackle, he did finally admit to being pulled over for loud pipes, never wanted to be behind him at an underpass, he couldn't resist pulling in the clutch and cracking them wide open.

I didnt like the short shots either. To harsh and difficult to tune.
I think the fact that they exited right under my ear made it bad for me.

Go with a set of slipons with baffles like Screamin Eagles if you want it slightly louder
than stock or radii, CycleShack or Rush if you want louder.

V&H quiet baffles worked good for me. Without them they were way too loud - gave me headaches. I had the slashed slip-ons so these might be quieter than the short shots.

My 1200 came with Short-Shots. Took them off the first day and put stock pipes back on. Will never go back.
