Default Anyone take their Sportsters off-road?

Im looking into a chain conversion and a few other upgrades. I've been taking my bike off-road alot more. I turned it into a Scrambler type bike

What upgrades would you do next?

If you had asked me that question just a few months ago I would have said never. Since my bike was rear ended and the last negotiation from the insurance company was to total it, give me 9K and let me keep the bike as is, i've considered converting it to a heavy scrambler. The back wheel is just off from straight and the insurance company couldn't risk replacing the swing arm to see if that would fix it, but i can, so that's just what i'm thinking about doing.

It's quite a while since we last had someone discuss off-road Sporties in here, but there were some wonderful bikes shown. I suspect you are in an elite group of very few! I used to ride off-road, way back, but my favourite bike for doing that weighed only a couple of hundred pounds, probably less than a Sporty engine!

Yeah I have a CRF230F which I plan to sell when I get back to the states to upgrade to probably a 250L. That bike is just a bit small to me. I'm thinking my next bike to replace the harley for my daily rider to be the CRF1000L, so I would have a garage full of dirt bikes should I change the harley over, lol.

Back-in-the-day Harley made a high-pipe scrambler version of the Sportster when it was still only produced as an 883, and marketed it as an on-road, off-road bike. It was heavy for a scrambler and some guys raced them on flat tracks, but I never ran across one in the scrambles races that I used to run with my Triumph TR-6C. They were tough to beat in the flat track races, but I was able to do so on occasion. As a scrambler they looked the part more than they could act the part. Nice to see that some are trying to resurrect the scrambles capability on the Sportster, but they're still too heavy IMHO.

Thumbs up

IIRC the '60s were when the Street Scrambler was a common sight. BSA and Triumph also made them, along with the Jap brands, although they were no more than street bikes with a few mods to give them the right look:
