Default 2014 xl1200c foot controls and suspension

Got the color tins I want on the bike now maybe a few changes. Have a sole seat with back rest plus stock dual seat. I don't seem to like the forward controls. Did like my 93 Electra glide floor boards but these are just too far forward for comfort for my liking. Can I add mid foot pegs and leave the follow controls? This model does have abs though I would only have front brake if I had to react super fast. Don't know that Harley links the sporty brakes front to rear. Better to just find some mid controls and change her out maybe? Sole seat is nice but darn hard over highway bumps. Better to put my feet on rear pegs so it does not hurt my tail bone.

Which leads me to suspension question. Guessing the newest sportster modle finally got half way decent shocks. Without spending lots of money what if anything might I consider for either front or rear changes and will the end result be worth it? I ride alone 95% of the time and mostly will do around town riding, no long trips on this bike. Have a bmw r1200rt for that roll.

The sporty is light, fast, seems smooth to me and though hot has to be less hot then the larger engine Harley's. Happy to check Craigslist if needed.
Thanks for any input or recommendations. Ride save.

Kuryakan mini floor boards are adjustable three positions fore and aft. I have mine adjusted all the way back and find it very comfortable. May be a much cheaper alternative then buying mid controls.
As for shocks Progressive suspension 12.5 inch shocks are a great budget shock.

For springs, you may want to change out the front springs also, unless the 2014 has beefed those up. Lot's of front end dive and sometimes topping out over rode dips . . . seems oil might be changed to something better?

I went with Progressive 412-4068 12" Standard Duty rear shocks because they only change the rake a bit being the stocks shocks are 11.5".
NOTE: The 12" 412-4068 Standard Duty has the HEAVY Duty 90/130 spring rate that some other 12.5" and 13" Progressive shocks have. So, you get a 12" shock with Heavy Duty springs. You can even go to the 12" 412-4069 and get a 115/155 spring rate.

Red face

You have two very different subjects here, with foot controls on the one hand and suspension on the other! Would be better to deal with each of them separately.

Unfortunately Harleys come with crap suspension. It's a fact. The only Sportster to break that mould is the XR, no longer made, which came with fully adjustable front and rear suspension. The only other Harley with a similar setup was the FXDXT, some years ago. Harley owners are supposed to be rufty-tufty types who don't need no creature comforts while riding! We don't even get offered decent suspension when buying a top-of-the-range CVO bike.

There are lots of solutions available out there, looking to take your money. IMHO none of the cheap ones are worth spending on. Take a look around here and Search for threads on 'shocks' and others on 'forks', for a little light reading.

I have forwards on my dyna but kept the mid mounts and pegs for extra foot positions. It should be possible on a sportster. The brake side I had to remove the lever part(just a c clip).

Thank you
The gear shifer linkage will probably need to be raised to find your best comfort level. I initially resisted adjusting the shifter and wish it had been done sooner.

If those mini footboards don't work out, I might suggest changing to mid-controls. I did that with my Custom and put highway pegs where the forward controls go. To me, the mids give me better control in most riding situations and the forwards let me stretch out on the longer rides.

Those mini footboards might come in handy on the mids if you do make the change.

^^^^
Yeah that

Just as an option, I am using the low profile street glide oil/air shocks @ 2 psi solo...good shocks and cost effective. But you can definitely buy quality shocks like Ohlins for the price.
