Default 2008 Nightster Cables Help

Hi guys. I need some info for anyone with 2008 Nightster. I'm installing 12" apes and was wondering if I can use stock cables and wiring. I know I'll have to swap the brake line. I have an unused Barnett brake line that is 47.5", hoping it will fit. I don't want to purchase the cables and wire extension kit if I can get away using stock. Curious what other Nightster owners have gotten away with. Thanks!

I've never fitted apes, however I have done enough Harley mods to learn, the hard way, that sometimes things promised by other members work out fine, but other times we can only learn on the job! Plan from the outset to discover you need something you hadn't expected and you won't be disappointed!

Don't use the Barnett cables. Cheap and way to long. I used the stock cable off of a 72. Fit perfect.

The general rule on Sportsters is: If the apes are 10" or less, you don't have to replace brake hose and cable or have to extend the wires. If it is over 10" then you will have to replace brake hose and all cables and either get extended wire set or purchase a wire extension kit or the stuff to do it yourself (i.e. solder gun, wire, and shrink tubing). Don't need to worry about connectors as you will be using the ones you cut off to add wire extensions inbetween.

Ordered a custom fit set of barnett cables on my current iteration of my sportster they're certainly smoother out of the box than factory throttle cables. The price was reasonable as well so I can't I agree with the statement of them cheap or too long. I do recommend calling direct and ordering them fit for your application rather than online with what theirs or any website says is what you need for your length most will over compensate in length for any binding that may occur.

The brake line had to be replaced. My stock line worked with my 8" mini apes though
