Default Draining Sportster Oil

Just picked up a 2012 Nightster with only 2,248 on it, pretty much brand new.
Was suprised to see how you drain the oil, unlike my RK that has a threaded plug.
I'm assuming all Sporties are like this, just seems like kind of a cheap system, but apparently it holds up, right?

Seems to hold up....rubber tube, plastic insert/ plug for tube.

Yes, it can be a surprising setup.

Maybe another co-member can add some long term feed back/ preventative maintenance of the rubber tube that is over 10 years of age.

Mine's over 26 years old and still works fine. Of course, it's been garaged the whole time. Out of the sun helps a lot!

I like to think of it as the simple things like that keep the motor/bike cheap. The engineers at Harley made it near bulletproof (with the exception of the clutch spring and what not). So while it may not be the best designed motor in the world, you get some pretty decent bang for your buck.
