Default Calling on wheel experts

Have a narrow glide 2000-2007 front hub made for the 21" rim with staggered spoke holes.
Converting it from 3/4" bore to 25 mms bore.
Dropped the adapter shim H-D on 43315-07 in the primary brake caliper side bearing hole and pressed in a 52mm OD x 15 mm wide x 25 mms bore rubber sealed
ball bearing Timken 205PP, so the bearing bottomed out on the shoulder.
Measured the recess of the outer bearing surface to the centering lip at .109" using a Starret depth micrometer. Looked like a reasonable depth recess.
Placed a wheel spacer sleeve for an 2009 , 21" wheel hub , H-D on 43906-08 in the hub hole. The part was removed from un opened sealed packaging purchased at the H-D dealer.
The spacer surface was higher than the shoulder surface on the non primary side as it should be.
Pressed in another 52mm OD x 15mms wide x 25mm rubber sealed ball bearing , H-D on 9276A, on the opposite side until it bottomed out on the spacer/ sleeve surface.
The spacer had no axial play and was metal to metal contact to the bearing inner ring on both sides.
The spacer could be moved slightly sideways with a finger.
Measured the recess of the outer bearing surface to the centering lip at 0.257".

This recess amount of basically a 1/4" seems excessive.

Is this the correct recess for this bearing?

Is this the correct spacer sleeve to use for this conversion or should a longer sleeve be used?

Does anyone have 2008. & up, 21"laced front wheel with 25 mm axle diameter removed from the bike,
so the bearing recess into the hub on the right side can be measured?

.109" ?

Left "primary bearing" side should be approx .160" ish

What's your bearing bore depth and shim thickness?

I've changed bearing sizes in a Touring wheel and bought a factory bearing kit which came with a new bearing specer. It's possible you need to use a different length spacer? How do your old and new bearings compare in thickness?

Used an H-D shim 43315-07 from an unopened packaging purchased at the H-D dealer.
The 43315-07 shim measures 0.111" thick.
Measured it with 1" Starrett micrometer before installing it.

Converting a narrow glide front hub from a 2000-2007, 21" laced wheel with 3/4" bore ball bearings to 25 mm ball bearing.
Using an H-D p/n 9276A , & Timken 205PP, both bearings are identical in size.
Both bearings measure 52 mm OD x 15 mm width x 25 mm bore.
This is the listed bearing for 2009, 21" laced front wheel for 883C..
The spacer used is an H-D p/n 43906-08, purchased at H-D dealer, the spacer was removed from unopened packaging.

The stock 2000-2007 , 3/4" bore bearings are wider than the 25 mm 2008 & up bearings, that is the reason for the shim.

Did not measure the length of the spacer before installing right side bearing.
Bearing reccess depth of primary caliper side is .109" with bearing pressed to hub shoulder. This depth appears correct.
Bearing recess depth of right side is 0.257". This depth seems excessive.
Did notice before installed right side bearing the spacer projected beyond the recess shoulder, as it should.
Bearing recesses were measured using a Starrett depth micrometer.

If the correct depth was known, could take a wide glide hub spacer from an H-D model 48 with the 130 x 16 front tire, also the V- rod uses the same hub and shorten on a lathe.
Might have to remove my front wheel and measure the bearings recesses.
Do not believe the stock 2008 & up spacer is comparable with the the 3/4" to 25 mm narrow glide hub conversion.

Believe a longer spacer/sleeve length is required for proper fitment to use stock axle spacers.

I hope this isn't wasted effort, but we'll see.

You DO NOT NEED A LONGER SPACER SLEEVE...08-later narrowglide sleeve is correct for your application

You are trying to install a 2005 Narrowglide wheel on a 2009 Narrowglide sportster...Correct?

I can appreciate that you are unfamiliar with this process, but Harley isn't.

You are doing nothing that is "Custom". This is been done many times before and by Harley themselves. The "Wheel Installation kit" they sell allows your original 2009 wheel to be installed on your 2009 bike, but also to install a 2005 wheel (with it's different bore depths) on your 2009. That kit will use the 08-later spacer in both cases, but also use the bearing shim to position the 2005 wheel correctly for rotor-to-caliper alignment using your 2009 wheel spacers.

Try on this perspective...(doesn't have to be physically)
With NO wheel, install your ORIGINAL 2009 (2)wheel spacers, (2)25mm IDx 15mm wide bearings, and center spacer sleeve...again with NO wheel.

Would you expect that to fit properly?...Do you need a longer spacer sleeve?...
Of course NOT, it's all the original parts. It fits the same as before and correctly

So all you're trying to do is wrap a 2005 wheel around that assembly and using the bearing shim in that wheel's deeper LEFT-side bore to position the wheel for proper rotor-to-caliper alignment

You're trying to solve the Right-Side when you should be concerned about solving the Left-Side spacing (the most important side)

The following is your post in another thread:

...Measured the 2005 hub...

Measured the bearing hole shoulder depth with a depth micrometer and the right and left sides are not equal.
Right side =.928"
Left side = .871"
Using your measurements...
.170" = .871" (2005 left bore depth) -.111" (bearing shim) - .590" (15mm wide bearing)
If you measure a 2009 wheel with bearing installed (shallower bore, 15mm Wd Brg, NO shim) you should see approx that same dimension

If you got .109" instead of approx .170", I would want to know why, but regardless your desired dimension is approx .170 +/-

Let's tackle this even a different way...A different comparison reference...

2005 and 2009 use a different Left-side spacers (and right btw) on their respective wheel assemblies to achieve the same rotor-to-caliper alignment.
1.344" = .518" (2005 left spacer) + .826" (21mm Brg)
1.349" = .648" (2009 left spacer) + .590" (15mm Brg) + .111" (Brg Shim)

Same positioning...rotor-to-caliper aligment

Yes, installing 2000- 2007, narrow glide fork hub on 2009 narrow glide fork.
Great analysis.
The numbers do not add up.
Why,
Previously reported the primary side bearing/ shim was seared out on the shoulder.
Used a 20 ton press with a lot of leverage on the bar.
The spacer/sleeve only contacts the inner ring, while the bearing shim only contacts the outer bearing ring.
Decided to shake the hub with both hands.
Can hear the shim rattle between the bearing and hub shoulder.
Therefore, the primary bearing is NOT seated , as previously reported.
This situation causes the bearing recess to be .109" , rather than the correct .170", as calculated.
Based on .257" bearing recess measured on the secondary side with the unseated bearing, the correct recess should be .196".

Found another 2000-2007, narrow glide fork hub in inventory, do now the exact year.
Measured the bearing bore depth from centering lip to shoulder.
Primary side: 0.891"
Secondary side: 0.920"
This hub has centering guide ribs for the 3/4" bore bearing spacer/sleeve which have to be removed, if used with 25 mm bearings.

Will press the primary side bearing home, with secondary bearing and spacer sleeve installed, then measure recess, hopefully will get 0 .170+/-.

Pressed the left side bearing down into the recess hole until it seated against the shoulder.
Now, the seated depth of the bearing on left side measures 0.170" from the centering lip , using a depth micrometer.
