HD Chizeled bars on my 48
 

I got some HD Chizeled bars used for my 48. I'm about 6'1" and the stock bars were taking their toll on those days I'd be in the saddle for two hours or more. Here's a quick note on the install that I didn't see in other threads as I was doing bar swap homework.

The hardest part for these bars was running the wires internally. The instructions say to add the harness extensions then run everything through the bars. The harness ends just wouldn't make the turn through the tight corner at the tops of the bars. I ended up cutting off the harness extensions and soldering a piece of thin speaker wire to the existing wires coming from the controls that I had fed through the bars. I pulled everything through and cut off the speaker wire and re-soldered the extensions back on. After that everything was fairly straightforward. Not too bad of a job, just a lot of labor. My dealer wanted nine hours and it took me more than that. It's my first bike and my first bar swap so I was expecting as much. I took my time and I'm happy with the result. It's so much more comfortable!

I ran my wires thru my 10" bars with no extensions. An easy trick is to get some very small chain and run it thru the bars.....it's falls right thru no matter the bends in ur bars. Tape the wires to the chain and pull them thru. If you have some 90 degree type bends apply some lube like petroleum jelly to the area you taped up. It will help it slide through that section without ripping anything.

Yea,...Dealers want an arm and leg for bar swaps.

Mrhammer2u, yeah I considered some lube for that extreme bend in the bars but the multiple harness connectors just made it seem like more stress than I wanted to apply to the connections. There was plenty of lead in the harness extension so it was just easier to solder the leads to a thin speaker wire and pull it all through. Getting a lead through the bars with wire or chain was not the hard part. It was getting the rest of it through! Either way you do it works though. If I ever have to do it again though I will take several hours off my time, lesson learned. The end goal was accomplished, I love the look especially with the 3.3 tank on it and my lower back is thanking me!

Did you need to add any other extensions? i would like to do this myself to my 2010 iron. Do i need throttle and clutch cable extensions as well? I am 5ft 7. I assume i will just need to pull the bars back a tad for a more comfortable ride eh? I am currently running with keystone biltwell and i feel like i am reaching to much. Kills the lower back after a while

Yes they were run internally. I'm not sure how long they were but there was enough to get the job done with some room leftover.
