Shifter slaps my foot in 2nd

Hi all! I think I need to adjust something. When I shift into 2nd gear the shifter flips back a half inch and then forward a half inch just once once very quickly. It happens after it clicks into second gear. It only does it half of the time. To describe it a bit differently, the shifter slaps me in the foot immediately after shifting into second gear.

I changed the engine oil, transmission oil, filter and plugs last week but the problem didn't change its behavior in any way. Its been going on for almost 3 weeks.

This is on a Sportster Roadster XL1200R

Has anyone ever heard of this type of behavior?

I've had mine kick too but only if I change gears kind of half heartedly, shift it like you mean it with a good solid clunk to the full extension of the shifter and see if that solves the problem.

I've paid more attention to how I'm shifting and I honestly can't say if it's getting better. It doesn't do it all the time. It doesn't seem to be related to RPMs, to speed I shift, force of shift, or range of motion. I can't apply any kind of rhyme or reason to it.

Since my first post I have 100% come to the conclusion that I was shifting to lightly like opening a bag of chips in the library. ;)
