04 883 jetting woes
Hi all,
Picked up a somewhat neglected 883 couple months ago. It looks to have a cheapy type high flow k&n air filter, and drag pipes. Previous owner said these were added on and it wasnt rejetted. It likes to run with partial choke, otherwise wont rev up easily. It has a 42 pilot, which is probably lean for this setup, and a 205 main, which seems way big for for this setup. I'm thinking 45 pilot and 180 main should be good? Jets were clean when I removed them.
I've done a little poking around on the forums to see what others are running with. My jetting experience is with 2 strokes and off road 4 strokes...New to the harley carbs But I understand the concept.

45 pilot sounds good. 180 main sounds a little big. I have a 180 main jet in my (now) 1250. When it was an 883 with free flow A/C and exhaust I had a 170 main jet and that worked well. If you have to adjust the mixture screw out more than 3 turns you need a bigger pilot jet, if not, you're okay. At least that's what I've heard.
