Default 2007 Project: To buy or not to buy?

Hey gang! I sold my iron 883 a year ago and have been wanting another project. I ran across a guy selling a 2007 883. It was laid down and the tank smashed and handlebars bent. The seller has bought a Cole Foster Salinas tank, new rear fender, Biltwell HB seat, added passenger pegs and Biltwell bars to fix it up the way he wants. He decided to sell due to lack of interest. It does run, but couldn't hear it long because the exhaust was off. Has an estimated 10K miles on it. It also comes with the stock seat, risers and other misc. parts that I could sell to recoup some of my money. He is asking 2k for it.

Would you jump on this or steer clear? Would be a fun project I feel like and would definitely be set apart from other sportys because of the tank which I really like. Anyway, just trying to get some opinions before pulling the trigger! Thanks in advance!

Not knowing the circumstances of the "wreck", I would make sure the bike still has a clean title, not a salvage/rebuilt title. But that's really only important for resale value.

You can get a unwrecked sporty for 2500$ around here. A 91-03 at least. I would pass. Too many unknowns with the crash.

Also why didn't he finish the project? Maybe he realised it would cost more than the bike is worth.

The owner did have the clear title in hand so it's good to go and clear.

Decided to sell it because of lack of interest...or because he found out the frame was bent??? I can't see someone buying all that stuff then just loosing interest, there is more to this story I think.

Even is Louisiana where OP is, here is an unwrecked 2007 883 for a slightly higher price:

Depends on the other damage, if any.
You'd have to check the frame, forks, wheels, and everything else on the bike.
If it all checks out OK, it's probably not a bad deal if you want to put the time into it.
