Painting my Sporty: HOK, PaintHuffer, etc. (photo/video heavy)
I've wanted to paint my bike for a long time, and with a long Nashville ride coming up in November + Pensacola's constant rain, now is the time to do it.
I've always loved Paint Huffer products, and I've always loved gold, so I decided to do a metallic gold base and clear by House of Kolor, flake by PH. let me point out now that I AM A NOVICE and this is only my second time painting a bike - first time with flake.
Here's the original paint (doesn't look like this anymore. I have a real airbox, better sissy, and straight pipes now)

I'll be taking the tank off this weekend for stripping and priming. I welcome any advice from any paint pros out there.

Wet sand. Then wet sand again. Just when you think it's perfect,...wet sand again with an even higher # grit. Primer is very deceiving. You think it's smooth as glass until you lay some paint down just to realize you didn't get the previous sanding scratches totally out. That's been my experience.
Paint in a clean room. Dust and dirt will settle on your final coats and ruin your day.
Use a quality sprayer. You'll get a better finish with a good rattle can than a cheap Harbor Freight sprayer. Spend $$ here.
I think humidity is your enemy. Did you mean its rainy season now?
Good luck. Looking forward to it.

Thanks fellas. One great thing about flake (besides looking so good it makes ladies drop their drawers) is that it's very forgiving, which is great for a novice like me. I'm helping a buddy do his tank now with similar materials to mine and with a quality gun and good materials, the outcome looks fantastic.

Tackled priming the tank yesterday. I should've expected it, but there was a TON more factory clear on the tank than the fender. Took most of the day to apply stripper, scrape, reapply, etc.

First can of House of Kolor Zenith Gold came in yesterday, so I put on the initial coats. I have a 2nd can on the way, and that'll even it up. Then it's time for flake and clear!
