Default How much longer will the Sporty be a Sporty?

Probably covered somewhere in here, but curious. How much longer do you think the Sportster as we know it, will be in the lineup? With the current version being pretty long in the tooth, I have to think it's getting hard to sell new ones at new prices when the used market is lietarally flooded with low mileage bikes for penny's on the dollar. On top of that, increased competition in the small (er) displacement/frame bikes getting hot with new offerings from Triumph (Bonneville America/Speedmaster/Bobber) Indian (Scout, 60, and bobber) Yamaha Bolt, and all the others.

Without looking, I bet all of those put out more ponies, and have a better ride and suspension vs the good ol' Sportster off the floor. Given that sales are slow, and the MoCo has already proven they're willing to make drastic changes (they did kill the Dyna, after all) I'm personally betting 2019 has an all new, liquid cooled performance minded all new redesigned "Sportster" on deck. Quite possibly, using a version of the Street motor, hopped up to around 100 horses, in a shared platform of sorts.

If I'm wrong, I'all be very surprised......but I'm betting 2018 is the last year for the Sportster as we know it.

Sportster name has been around from 1957. I am sure it has seen some changes over the years. It will see some more.

Oh I don't doubt there will be a Sportster. I'm saying, I don't believe it will be an air cooled Evo beyond the 2018 model year.

My favorite Harley. But not a big seller for the dealerships or MoCo.

In it's most recent EVO FI version, it's about perfect.

With the current politics, I doubt EPA will mess with it.

The MoCo could sell it at a loss and still make money on it.
