Default 13 spoke front wheel is too wide.

Hi all,

have any any of you machined 5/32 off of one side of a mag wheel in order to make the wheel cantered and have the brake rotor line up with the calliper?

Obviously I would only machine the surface that the brake rotor bolts to.

The bike is a 1996 Sportster and the wheel is from the next generation. The wheel is equipped with a sealed bearing but still has a 3/4 inch axel.

I have the axel and spacers from both wheels as well as the brake rotors.

Thanks in advance,
craig

So there hasn't been any response.
I am going to bump this and ask about the new direction I am thinking of going.

Now I think that I will buy a used 2000-2003 lower left fork slider and a brake caliper to match.
This would line up with the wheel and brake rotor in addition to giving me better breaks.

Any opinions on this option?

Thanks,
Craig

Wouldn't it be easier to machine the axle spacers to align the disc rather than machine the wheel itself?

The the problem is that the right hand spacer isn’t much more than a washer and can’t be any thinner than it already is with out causing other issues.

I ended up buying a 2000-2003 left fork slider and 4 piston caliper. Now the brake rotor will line up and, as a bonus, I’ll have better brakes. The slider and caliper only cost me $115. I still need to buy new brake pads and caliper mounting bolts but it will still be cheaper than getting anything done at a machine shop.

I just picked my 19” rear wheel that is a front wheel with spacers bolted on to use in the rear. Having the 10 holes on the wheel drilled and taped to accept 7/16-14 bolts cost me $170 after getting a $100 estimate.
Going forward I will avoid having any more work done at a shop.
