Im at somewhat of a crossroad. Ive roughed the pieces, and have two options.
1) Use only the back plate and have it sitting inside the gear.
2) Use both pieces. First on the outside of the sprocket, and the back plate recessed about a 1/4" for depth.

When used as 2 pieces, my plan was to paint the large piece black and the inner piece silver (Colours of the bike). Had originally wanted to just weld them sandwiched together but there isnt enough depth to it, so I will be adding a spacer between.

when used as 1 piece, I would just paint it black.

Regardless of what I do, I will be cleaning the sprocket as good as I can get it.

Opinions welcomed.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I will also be closing up the middle hole on the large piece.

Here's a pic of the one I used to run.
(ignore the new brake lever)

Then I painted the sprocket red;

Then I decided to go with something totally different.

So there are alot of 'different' options still out there....

good luck & hth,

Getting further on the sprocket cover. Cut out the cover with the H-D #1.

In the pic I’m just holding it in place, but did pick up some JB to fasten it.

Ok. So, from appearances, you're not going to be able to see
the sprocket behind the mesh very well if at all, so why
go to the trouble of making an actual sprocket cover
(shown in your first pics) if you're using the #1 chopped stock cover ?

thanks,

T. (inquiring minds...)

I want to be able to see parts moving but don’t need it to be so in your face. The screen I find finishes it off well.
