Default I"m new here. Just purchased a 2010 "48"

I'm loving my new (to me) 48. I have Progressive 412's on the way as the stock shocks are terrible. My question is about tires. The bike has 7500 miles on it and I'm pretty sure the tires are original. They have tread but feel like rocks. I'm hoping someone can direct me towards a tire a bit more supple, but sporty too.

Thanks in advance,
Lee

Welcome and plus one on that pic of your sporty. You will love the progressive suspension. Anything is better than stock really. You should also consider the progressive monotubes for the front end suspension.

Monotubes? Happy to research this. But what can I expect from the upgrade. The ride is pretty stiff currently. I weigh 155lbs and plan to take my girlfriend (140lbs) on rides too.

In short, its an updated suspension design and you never have to change your fork oil.

The expense for a fork oil change is about equal to the price of the Progressive Monotube shocks.

Not having to change fluid again makes the shocks pay for themselves in the first change savings. Only need 5 oz. of 10W when assembling. It's in the instructions and used for lube of the parts. After that, never have to take them apart again or change fluid.

The difference in the ride is worth it! I installed them and the bike no longer bottoms out like before. Ride is much better. I purposely took it through holes, bumps, dips, etc...and it just feels way better. Not sure what else to say. I am very happy with that setup.

Thats great info. I'm also a DIY guy and hoping a job like this could be done by yours truly. I have years of experience racing off-road bikes, SCCA (auto racing) racing and I own a bicycle shop. Harley's are pretty new to me, thus all the questions. Thanks again for the input. Now I just need to find a good set of replacement tires.

Congrats on your new to you bike, and welcome to the forum.

Avon tires are nice and sticky, plus have some nice give.

Here are a couple of Reports on Suspension, which will help give a better ride.

Do a search on the date of manufacture code that is stamped into the sidewall of tires. It will tell you when the tires were made. If they are original, even with tread left, they need replacement soon, if not now.
