New tires

Time to replace my tires. I did some searching around here, but couldn't find anything.

Looking at the Scorcher or Commander II. What are you guys/gals using? I'm mostly interested in handling and comfort. I open to suggestions as well.

They're going on a 2010, 48.

Thanks,
Lee

How many miles do you average per year?

iamracerexx 02-23-2018 03:24 PM

Approx 1500 +~

You will hate the scorchers. They are as slick as a dog turd on a tin roof in 100* heat. Especially in the rain.

Especially rear tire

Im looking for tires also, especially the rear tire. I have been recommended to look at the Dunlop American Elite, Michelin Commander II and the Metzeler ME880 Marathon. My issue is my 48 has a rear tire that is 71H and I cant find a 71H in those. So now what...??? go with the OEM Dunlop?

Those brands all have tires that are 71H (or better) in that size.

I definitely wouldn't use the scorcher. At your mileage, a Commander 2 seems to be a bit overkill. I routinely get 20-25k out of a rear and ~35k out of a front with those.

I would pick something like the Shinko 777. Cheap, great grip, excellent in wet, and you can usually get 5k-8k out of those no problem. By the time you hit that you'll be aging them out anyways, which is better than a long mileage tire that will dry out before you wear it out.

So the 71H doesn't mean much and I can go with the Michelin 150/80 B16 "77h"

Wow, that sound really bad. Other than rain, what didn't you like? I don't plan on riding in the rain, unless I get caught riding home in it. And even then, I take it pretty slowly. I don't think there's a tire on earth that could change the way I feel about rain riding ;)

They were just a super hard tire that didn't grip well. I was able to very easily spin the rear tire without even trying. Once they hit about 2000 miles it just got worse and worse. Lasted about 5000 miles but no grip wet or dry. Don't know about the Commander II's but I will never run scorchers again that's for sure. This was on my 48 by they way.
