First time being pulled over for exhaust noise.

Yep, and I would want to see where it is written in the local codified laws that him sticking something up the tailpipe is an official and proven test for illegal motorcycle exhaust that covers every brand and type.
I don't care if he used a tape measure. Still isn't accurate. If he used a db meter and they have a codified limit then you might be stuck. But it doesn't sound like it. I would fight it.

Know what else is common in other places? They actually inspect the bikes and verify the OEM parts are the only things on there, or that you've replaced them with "approved" aftermarket parts. They can and will hold your bike for non-conforming parts.
Be grateful the US still allows us to be free, and fight to make sure we keep that freedom.

If you put some TTI's in there, not only will it quiet it down a bit, it will increase your low and mid-range torque, and it will also not allow anything to be shoved up the exhaust.

Meanwhile during the stop a crack dealer was selling his product to a 12 year old kid across the street....
Here exhaust systems can't be modified to be made louder. Talk about interpretation. It doesn't say anything about installing an aftermarket muffler or pipe. if you do, it has to have some sort of baffle installed and the pipe can't be modified to make louder. Some stock slip ons are louder than others and I know a person who was pulled over for loud pipes. Slip on muffler with the baffle it came with. No Db meter was used, just the state troopers "opinion". Tried to fight it and lost, not worth a lawyer so he moved on.

If I ever keep one of these bikes, I am sold, they sound great and more torque is like free beer, no one ever says no!
