First time being pulled over for exhaust noise.
Thanks to a nice undercover cop preying on people going to work, on the busiest street street leading to the highway, I got my first fine for having "non-conform" exhaust this morning.
169 Canadian, which must be about 25 usd.
He put a measuring tape, and so violated my bike, in the exhaust and told me it was illegal. Still, first time in three years. I had a good run. Not sure what to do now...

Was he simply using his stick up your muffler, or attracted by your exhaust sound level? I wouldn't put it past some Police to use noise meters. On the one hand we have the EPA and their equivalents around the World reducing noise of new vehicles, while on the other hand - well you all know that!

In Montreal? Wow. He's gonna be writing a lot of tickets then.
Best thing to do is arm yourself with the knowledge of what the Motor Vehicle act says about it in your province. If it's wishy washy and doesn't specify exact things, like how long your pipes should be then go fight the ticket.
Example: in NS, the Po Po like to stop Jeeps with tires sticking out past the fender flairs and charge the drivers based on "tires sticking out too far". The MV act doesn't say how much is too much. It does say make a reasonable effort to prevent spray from your wheels. Period. These tickets have been challenged and tickets dropped.
Best of luck.
