Default 04 1200 sportster starter help

hey guys I have an 04 xl1200r sporty and at the end of last year the starter quit working. It makes one solid click at the starter relay when I try to start it so I charged my battery up really good and put the relay from a friends 06 1200 that works in my bike and it did the same thing one click at the relay. Am I missing something here or will a bad starter do this? I’m just confused if the relay is good why is the click coming from there? Any help would b great

How old is your battery? Have you had it "Load Tested"?

you have a slave relay and a starter solenoid. If it is the relay clicking you could have a broken wire or a bad starter solenoid. If it is the starter solenoid clanking you may have a bad starter.

The click is the relay enagaging to connect power to the starter solenoid. If you get nothing through there then suspect the solenoid.

Update I talked to somone found out the clicking in the relay is just the relay getting power so decided to take starter the rest of the way out and test it. Upon doing this the gear is coming in and out but not spinning so now the question is what is everyone’s opinion on a solenoid rebuild solving my issue? I was told by local Harley dealer that I can’t buy a new solenoid just a rebuild kit. Is it worth it to try a rebuild or should I just bite the bullet and buy a starter?

Solenoid, just rebuild it. That is my vote!

Took to a local starter guy as the old timers call him and turns out the positive connection of the starter was wrenched on so tight thtbut spun a little L bracket inside and tht was the issue. Going to install tonight and find out bc the starter worked for a whole season then this happened wthout me touching tht connection
