The second time it was laid down because in the 20 mile ride from previous destination to the next, it rode fine. When I jumped on it from there is when the fun happened. Started up great, started riding and about 5 minutes in my speed was decelerating when I hadn’t intentionally done so and when I went to pull over to check it out it re-accelerated and the only option I could think of at the time to stop was to lay it back down which is what I did or go into a cement wall, the intersection or a poll so I feel like I choose the best option I could have in that scenario and was not seriously injuried.

I have already taken the class and I don’t know about other classes but how to handle gravel was not included nor what to do when your throttle does the opposite of what it is supposed to.

Thank you for the the helpful tips from the ones that answered the original question.
Not sure where you took class at but they did miss some things.
1 Always ride very slow on gravel
2 If you do have a malfunction. throttle, pull in clutch and apply brakes. Bike wont go anywhere
3 Throttle stuck after first incident? Unless you or someone else feels very comfortable disassembling handlebars and throttle and cables, which is where I would look , I would take to your local HD dealer

Just so you know, if you pull in the clutch it will stop accelerating. And then if the RPMs are running wild there is a kill button.

I was out with my girlfriend on her iron.
She missed one of the turns as her throttle was open, turned out that her thumb had been turning the throttle screw tighter as she had been riding.
So I cut off all of the 'petals' to prevent it happening in the future...could have been a similar situation

I know of many riders including myself who have been riding for +/- 50 years before taking the motorcycle riding safety course and ALL of us said the same thing: "I didn't know who much I didn't know!". You know the proverb about pride taking a fall....
