Replace forward controls with mid controls and install new seat
I own a 2003 883C which came standard with forward controls. I've only ridden a little over 3K miles on the bike, but am considering installing mid controls in place of the forward controls due to the fact that at 5'4", it's really become a pain (literally) on longer trips. I also feel as though I don't always have control of the bike. Has anyone done this and if so, how difficult is it? I rode about 200 miles this past weekend and could definitely feel it when I got home. I'm also considering replacing the stock Badlander seat with a HD "Reach" seat. Has anyone installed one of these seats and if so, did it make a difference.

shouldnt be a problem of finding the stuff to convert to mid controls. it was a little wierd when i put fwd cntls on my sporty but eventually i even extended mine by 2" and im 5'6" i use a corbin seat and have no problems. hope every thing works out for you.
btw, id check with some independant shops theyre always changing to fwd controls they may have the parts you need cuz harley will probally smoke your butt.

I demo'd a Custom that had a Reach seat and I definitely noticed a difference from the stock seat.
BTW, Badlanders aren't stock seats. Whoever you bought it from must have replaced the stock seat with the Badlander, which I think is lower.

Hey Sport100,
I know about the sit part i have a 2005 883 i got 3 weeks ago.
I ride it to work sometimes during the week around 130 miles round trip, and let me tell you my butt is freaking sore.
I am definetly replace the sit. My HD dealer can get it for me for around $267.Do it its worth it.
As for the pegs yes mine came with them forward i enjoy that.
good luck.

I HAVE AN '04 1200C AND I HAD MID-CONTROLS INSTALLED.. BUT LEFT THE FORWARD FOOT PEGS IN PLACE. AFTER A LITTLE PRACTICE I FIND THAT I CAN RIDE IN EITHER POSITION; SHIFTING AND BRAKING WITH MY HEEL FROM THE FORWARD, AND WITH MY TOE FROM THE MID. CONSIDER IT!
GOOD LUCK AND ENJOY!

Thanks for all the replies and the experiences. I've pretty much made up my mind to do the conversion and get the seat. HD makes a kit (33898-01) which has all of the parts to make the conversion. I also like the idea of keeping the forward pegs for highway riding. I purchased the bike new in January 2003 from an HD dealer. The 2003 883C came standard with the Badlander seat and the 1200C came standard with the thicker touring style seat. Thanks again.
